So, I just had an in-class critique with Graham, and he suggested the I do the following to further my project (I’m writing this down now, before I lose the scraps of paper I wrote on):

  • Look at Bruce Mau’s “Massive Change”: read the manifesto and look at his exhibition
  • Maybe my letterforms can be much larger objects, like archways (symbolic of when Roman soilders come home from home, and must pass through the city’s archway to commemorate “coming home”)
  • Look at the Behance network for ways in which projects can be presented
  • Try varying my letterforms in different sizes and fill up a room with them
  • Maybe my letterforms can be so giant, they form a word from the sky, and on ground level people can walk through the letters like a museum walk-through of “the history of type”.

- Major things I must consider within the next couple of weeks:

  1. Choose the material I want to work with
  2. Finalize the scale I wish to work at for my scale model
  3. Create a high-quality scale model, so I can use it for different applications
  4. Think about the possible context of the project (i.e. type as an icon, maybe it is a museum exhibit, etc.)
  5. Figure out how to document it (photograph, scale model, video, etc.)

- I will continue to experiment with different materials and scale (translucent material, and larger scale).
- I will pick my material and scale by next class (leaning towards corrugated paper, and a larger scale, maybe 3x the size of what I’ve done so far).
