Boiling It Down...
So, here are the top quotes I’m fighting with right now…
Discovery ignites the passion to create. Process is the portal to discovery and ignites the passion to create.
Discovery and inspiration ignite creativity.
The greatest ideas are constructed by the desire to discover. The greatest ideas are ignited by process and passion. The greatest ideas are ignited by discovery. The...
Laser CUT
There’s a new kid in town, and he goes by the name of LAZERCUTTER. AKA The Department of Design got a fun new toy and that is a laser cutter. JUST in time for me to use it and save myself from the millions of papercuts, exacto-knife cuts and many other injuries or tears that would have been sustained through the cutting of the millions of sheets of corrugated cardboard I will be using.

playGround
Last night I went to go and see playGround, which is the annual Theatre@York student-produced fringe festival of original works and works-in-progress by up-and-coming playwrights, directors, designers and performers in the undergraduate Theatre program at York. I went because one of my roommates is in theatre and she was in one of the plays in Series A of the shows. The play she performed in...
Key Words
I’m still struggling with what the quote should read, so I’ve tried to highlight what major key words might be, to help me discover what the best quote might be. Here they are, the key words to my “thesis”:
Contruct
Passion
Desire
Experience
Emotion
Dreams
Ideas
Create
Process
Check out my older post on possible quotes and give me feedback on which one is best...
Possible Quotes
So I’m having trouble laying down my thesis for the project in a succinct and elegant way… I’m basically trying to express a sense of migration in artists work… how past experiences, emotions and lessons inform the decisions we make to shape and change our lives. How process is more important than the outcome, because there is a sense of discovery there that leads you to...
Ways I Can Document the Project →
This is an example of how I can document the project. Turning it into a campaign.
Letters Galore →
Looks like what my project is going to end up being…. tonnes and tonnes of paper letterforms. Everywhere.
The Big Wait →
Awesome installation idea: spilling over two walls…
Cool idea: medium running with the concept.
Katpedeles and Segments →
Crazyyyyyyy installation…. Fishing wire FTW!
Fashion Punk Exhibition →
I found this whilst trying to look at more examples of installations documented… it definitely looks cool and gives me an idea of how to document my installation, if I make it size-as, which is what I am thinking of doing right now, because little mock-ups seem difficult to justify… but I don’t know where I am going to find enough material for this if I do it life-size…...

– Bruce Mau’s “Incomplete Manifesto For Growth”.
From his book, Massive Change, Bruce Mau states this. Which is something Graham has definitely been hinting towards. Now that I’ve started doing, I understand this is the most inherent way to the creative process.
After critique
So, I just had an in-class critique with Graham, and he suggested the I do the following to further my project (I’m writing this down now, before I lose the scraps of paper I wrote on):
Look at Bruce Mau’s “Massive Change”: read the manifesto and look at his exhibition
Maybe my letterforms can be much larger objects, like archways (symbolic of when Roman soilders come...
The Pieces
So from looking at all that, I think I will make the following pieces:
- The Typographic Installation (presented as a poster, or as several angled shots presented in a book form)
- An event poster
- An invitation for the opening of the installation
- A brochure/leave-behind piece that guests can pick up at the show
But this also means I am:
- Creating my own typeface for the letter-forms in...
